THE HISTORY OF AMADIO WINES

Since 1936, Amadio Wines has prided itself on producing premium quality wines vintage after vintage. Tradition and passion guide every step so our wine can be as brilliant as the people you share it with. National and international awards decorate our bottles but our greatest reward is seeing our wines surprise and delight.

1927

Giovanni found a job as a Market Gardener in a fruit orchard at East Marden and never lost a day’s work from there on. In 1932, Giovanni paid for his wife and son’s passage by ship, to join him in Australia, they arrived January 7th. In 1934, Giovanni purchased what became the family home and land at East Marden.

1936

In 1936, Giovanni Amadio commercially registered his dry table Wine after years of making wine for family and friends. Giovanni sourced his grapes from leased vineyards nearby to make his well crafted wine from his cellar door in Adelaide. His lighter, drier wine style became rapidly popular with word spreading interstate. A successful production began over time with his family cultivating a sincere appreciation for premium winemaking.

1940

In 1949, he was recruited to become a member of the SA Fruit Growers Association. This lead to a continued interest in development of the Market Garden Business through a vendors stall where he sold his produce to retailers and shops.

1985

His subsequent plantings, vision for the region and diligent work lead to his premium wines gracing the tabletops of restaurants and households throughout Australia and overseas. His dedication as a wine producer focused on quality and helped him build an enviable reputation for creating award winning wines.

2005

Success breeds success! As the winemaking generation continues with his son Danniel Amadio who aptly named the Amadio range of wines. Sourcing his premium fruit from the family’s Kersbrook, Adelaide Hills vineyards, Danniel maintains limited case production of every wine range to ensure hands on production standards, honoring family custom.

THE WINEMAKER

Inspired by his Italian heritage, guided by tradition and passion, Danniel crafts premium quality wine that tantalise the world.

Danniel Amadio is continuing his family’s successful winemaking legacy. He is driven by a strong winemaking style and philosophy, infused with an entrepreneurial spirit. His wines embrace the best fruit flavours and ‘terroir’ characteristics of the region, producing wines of great depth and natural character.

Danniel has his finger on the pulse of every aspect of production, enabling his philosophy of producing premium quality wine. He is often found inspecting the fruit parcels in the Kersbrook Vineyard and when in Adelaide, his mind is on expanding Amadio Wines’ horizons nationally and internationally. This has led him to be the 2009 Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” finalist. In 2007, he was also awarded the South Australian business awards for Hong Kong/China Entrepreneur for excellence in Bilateral Trade.

ADELAIDE HILLS VINEYARDS

The Amadio Vineyard is located North of the Adelaide Hills wine region between the areas of Kersbrook and Williamstown. An area that is considerably warmer and drier than other areas in the region causing the low-vigour fruit to ripen earlier with more tannin and high acidity.

With 327 acres planted, the vineyard supplies an array of grape varieties. In the white: Sauvignon Blanc, Fiano, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Arneis, Moscato, Vermentino and Pecorino. In the red: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Grenache, Sangiovese, Barbera, Dolcetto, Tempranillo, Montepulciano Aglianico, Sagrantino , Nebbiolo and Nero d’Avola. Together, these grapes can create over a million bottles of wine.

KANGAROO ISLAND VINEYARDS

In 1991, fifth–generation Islanders Michael and Rosie Florance joined with the Amadio Family to produce the first commercial Kangaroo Island wine, under the Kangaroo Island Trading Company brand. The vineyard located on Kangaroo Island’s Cygnet River has the perfect growing climate. When combined with careful land nurturing and Amadio winemaking expertise, exceptional wines are produced. The Kangaroo Island range showcases the exceptional depth of Island terroir whilst including generous fruit flavours.
